The Batory Foundation is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation with the status of a public benefit organisation, registered in the National Court Register under no. 0000101194.
The aim of the Batory Foundation is to support the development of democracy and civil society – a society of people aware of their rights and responsibilities, involved in the affairs of their local community, their country and the international community.
Our priorities include: improving the quality of Polish democracy, strengthening the role of citizens and civic institutions in public life, developing international cooperation and solidarity in the European Union and Central and Eastern Europe.
The primary method of the Foundation’s operation involves making grants to organisations working for the public interest. The Foundation also carries out its own projects: organizes social actions and campaigns, carries out expert and advocacy activities, monitors the functioning of public institutions, organizes debates and conferences.
The Foundation partners with many institutions from Poland and abroad. It is a member of the Philanthropy Europe Association in Brussels and European Civic Forum in Paris. It cooperates with the Open Society European Network and Transparency International. It participates in the work of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, an EU initiative.
In its activity, the Foundation is guided by the principles of transparency, openness and equal access in the grant-making process. Up-to-date information on its activities, grant-seeking opportunities and decisions on the distribution of funds is posted on the website. Its finances are audited by external experts and the financial statements are published in the Annual Report, together with the list of grants awarded and projects implemented during the year.
