Operational programmes

Democratic Institution

The Democratic Institutions program focuses on key aspects of the rule of law and the resilience of public institutions against abuse. In this area, we undertake initiatives to strengthen mechanisms for protecting democratic values, improve the quality of governance and resilience against abuse of power, and promote transparency and greater openness and participation in the legislative process.

In cooperation with the Legal Experts Group, The Electoral Experts Group, and the The Civic Legislative Forum, we analyze the functioning of public institutions and democratic processes, which allows us to identify and eliminate potential abuses. Our goal is to strengthen public oversight of key democratic processes and the day-to-day activities of local and national government bodies by utilizing, among other things, instruments such as access to public information and public hearings. We strengthen civil society’s engagement in efforts to renew and strengthen the democratic institutional order and the democratic public sphere.

In collaboration with the Expert Group on Technology and Democracy, we monitor the impact of new technologies on democracy and the state, which is particularly important in light of the growing role of digitalization in social life.

We support initiatives that increase civic participation and citizens’ responsibility for the common good.
