Seminar on Armenia and Poland


On July 18th we organized a working seminar: Armenia and Poland. Cooperation between non-governmental organizations – opportunities and prospects. During the round table discussion we focused on the internal situation in Armenia as well as we reflected upon the areas of cooperation between Armenian and Polish NGOs. [more]

Polonia Restituta for prof. Wiktor Osiatyński


Prof. Wiktor Osiatyński, lawyer, human rights activist, columnist, in the 1990s a member of the Board of the Stefan Batory Foundation and originator of many social initiatives, including the Foundation’s Education Commission for Alcoholism and Other Addictions, awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta by the President of Poland for distinguished service in developing the principles of a democratic state based on the rule of law and activities to strengthen civil society as well as achievements in academic and journalistic work.

European Citizen's Prize


The European Parliament awarded the Open Society Foundations European Citizen's Prize (CIVI EUROPAEO PRAEMIUM) for its role in the transformation processes and development of democracy and in the Central Eastern Europe. OSF was nominated to the award by Polish MEP prof. Lena Kolarska-Bobińska. OSF was the only organization among the awarded of a pan-European and regional dimension.

News monitoring


We monitored news programmes on public television between 31/5/2010 and 2/7/2010. The objective of the research was to estimate the duration of time devoted by public television to individual presidential candidates, and to determine the manner in which they were presented.

Campaign success


The Wherever you are, vote! campaign, conducted by the Your Voice, Your Choice coalition, was a success as far as the election turnout was concerned. Before the presidential election, five times more voting certificates were issued than before the election of 2007. In spite of the holiday season, the turnout was 5 percentage points higher than in the election of 2005.

Award for "Together '89"


We are proud to announce that the campaign Together '89 was awarded the title of the Social Campaign of 2009 in the civic initiatives category, for innovative tools of communication and for consistent actions under the “TOGETHER” logo. The PZL agency was awarded in the same competition for the “Belly Button of Europe” campaign, conducted by the Your Voice Your Choice coalition.

NGO grants


10 coalitions of non-governmental organisations operating in the Vysehrad countries were provided with grants for continuation of their actions in 2010: three from Slovakia, three from the Czech Republic, two from Hungary and two from Poland. [more]

Together for Flood Victims


The Foundation was involved in the action Together for Flood Victims, by providing a grant to start a non-governmental information centre, which coordinated the aid for flood victims.

Democracy in Action grants


34 grants for the total sum of PLN 2 944 400 were awarded during the first edition of the Democracy in Action programme.
