EventsSeminar Migration from Eastern Europe to the European Union in the context of visa policyWarsaw, January 26th 2010
While visa-free entry to the nationals of EU Eastern neighbors had long been thought of as unrealistic, it has recently turned into an official goal of the European Union’s long-term strategy. However, the idea still has strong opponents. One of the fears associated with visa-free movement is increased inflow of migrants from the Eastern Neighborhood countries. Are there serious grounds for these worries? How current migration from the Eastern Europe to the EU could be characterized? How these migration patterns might change after introduction of a visa-free movement? How did waiving visas for some countries in the past influenced migration from those countries? These are some of the questions we would like to discuss during the seminar oraganized by the Batory Foundation together with the Center of Migration Research, University of Warsaw and International Renaissance Foundation (Kyiv). The meeting will be held from 9.30. till 14.00 at the Stefan Batory Foundation premises in Warsaw, Sapieżyńska 10a. The meeting will be held in Polish and English, simultaneous interpretation will be provided. For more information, please contact the organizers: granica@batory.org.pl.
