The Stefan Batory Foundation
- is one of the biggest non-profit organizations in Poland, registered and operating in accordance with Polish law
- was founded in 1988 by George Soros, an American financier and philanthropist with a mission to support democracy, development of civil society, a state of law and market economy in Poland
- fulfills its aims by providing assistance to non-governmental organizations, associations and foundations involved in the process of social, economic and political transformation in Poland and in Central and Eastern Europe
- is active in the field of education, law, civil activity and international co-operation
- supports activities aimed at strengthening the non for profit sector and broadening co-operation between non-governmental organizations and their social partners
- sets examples of long term partnerships across the business and non-profit sectors
- contributed over 80 million dollars in the last fifteen years to the society through grants for non-governmental organizations and scholarships for students and young academics
- its finances are professionally audited and published in the Annual Report

The donor is assured that we:
- thoroughly verify the status of the potential grantee to ensure that the giving is tax-free and effective;
- monitor the way the money is spent and examine project and financial reports;
- provide the donor with the interim reports on how his money is being invested in the community;
- help to promote the donor's social involvement through our publications and in the media.
The donors may support us through:
- endowment funding, which illustrates long-term commitment in the areas the Stefan Batory Foundation supports;
- the general support grant to the Foundation to fund the program activity;
- establishing a Named Fund/Company Fund at the Foundation to fund particular program area of donors' interest;
- establishing a Donors' Advised Fund through which the donor will choose projects to be funded;
- establishing a Partner Fund that allows for long-term partnership to fund joint projects or programs.
Endowment Funding/Charitable Trust
Donor's gift increases the Foundation's endowment and the earnings on the principal fund the program activity or particular projects of donor's interest.
General Support Grant
Donor supports the statutory activity of the Foundation without specifying the projects or program areas.
Named/Company Fund
Donor decides what sort of projects or programs or initiatives should be funded from his account. He may also decide to narrow his funding to a particular geographical area. A percentage of the donation may fund projects indicated or submitted directly by donor if they fall in the Foundation’s statutory activity.
Donor's Advised Fund
Donor indicates the grant applications from among those recommended for funding by the Program Commissions to the Foundation’s Board to be supported to support from his fund.
Partner Fund
The Foundation and the donor agree to co-fund projects that fall in the sphere of their mutual interest, (culture, education, social welfare, ethnic minorities, others). The funds donated by the donor are matched by the Foundation thus increasing the volume of the contribution to the community.
