Regional Alcohol and Drug Program

Program funded by the Open Society Institute.

This program, first launched in 1996, promotes innovative addiction treatment methodologies in Central and Eastern European and Central Asian countries. Our main purpose is providing both theory and practice to clinical professionals and educators in the field of alcohol and drug prevention and treatment addressed to the population of addicted patients and their families. We also assist developing programs of treatment of alcoholics and drug addicts in penitentiary institutions based on the American model Atlantis, successfully working in several prisons in Poland and, since 1995, in two prisons in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The model combines cognitive-behaviors psychotherapy and the spiritual 12-Step philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. The participants of our seminars and workshops include medical doctors and nurses, psychologists, social workers and counselors working with addicts from Belarus, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Ukraine, several districts of Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Romania and Mongolia.
